Subject: Frustrated in the Lehigh Valley

I am writing you with the hope of resolving my job seeking dilemma. I am
a 12 year veteran in the field of law enforcement. I obtained my Bachelor of
Science degree in the Administration of Justice from Penn State and continued
with course work toward my Master's Degree. I obtained employment as a
result of a very successful internship. It was an opportunity to prove my
value and the hard work paid off. Similarly, the decision by the department
to hire me paid off as I proved my worth through my various accomplishments.
Over the next 12 years some of my accomplishments include nominations for
Employee of the Year and the Community Spirit Award and frequent nominations
for Employee of the Month. I received Departmental Commendations for
implementing a Career Day, presenting an outstanding Defensive Tactics
Program for the department. I was also commended for exceptional
contributions as an Alcohol Highway Safety instructor, assisting other units
during crunch periods, and as part of a Unit Commendation for outstanding
performance. I am also very proud of a Formal Commendation received by the
Chief of the department for achieving a perfect 100% workload compliance
rating. I worked my way to the position of Assistant Supervisor and now
would like to once again make a career move. I hope to make a transition
into the field of sales and offer my potential employer the same dedication
and hard work that catapulted to the "near top" of my department.
Now the frustration. How can I find potential employers? I have had
disappointing responses from the sources I have used including national
websites and the newspaper. I wish local companies would be more visible. I
know there are a lot more companies here in the Valley than I see in the
paper. Also, although there are many national websites available, why should
I begin a "national" search for a local employer? I am willing to
travel/relocate but would like the chance to speak to one of the thousands of
successful companies in my own back yard. Where can I go to find information
about companies in our area? As an educated, professional, and an extremely
proven employee I am very frustrated in trying to find local prospective
employers! We really need a resource to find information about these
companies. I would encourage local companies to "show themselves" and the
job opportunities they have to offer!! There are a lot of very qualified
people like myself who would love to make a "local connection!!"

Subject: Job Search Frustrations

I am a recent graduate from Kutztown University with a BA in Psychology. I am basically looking for a full-time, entry level position in the Lehigh Valley that will allow room for growth, and possibly provide me with tuition reinbursement, so that I can work towards a masters degree. My career interests lies in Human Resources or Recruiting, but I am not going to limit myself to those areas. I realize that experience is important, but it is hard to gain that necessary experience when I cannot get my foot in the door. I am not having much success with the Lehigh Valley, simply because it seems that only the larger companies are using the Internet for employment opportunities. The Internet is not the only resource I am using in my job search, I am also using the newspapers' employment sections, personal job leads from friends and job fairs. But the employment sections seem to be geared toward people with years of experience or blue-collar work. I have had more success in the Philadelphia area, but I would like to stay in the Lehigh Valley to gain some financial stability. The companies in the Philadelphia area are more visible. I have found that the Lehigh Valley is more of an industrial work based area. That may not be entirely true, but that is the impression I get with all of our factories and warehouses. But, there are also many industrial parks in the area, but I hardly see job opportunities with them anywhere. There has to be jobs out there. That is why I came to this website, it sounds like a great opportunity for recent college graduates in the Lehigh Valley. This was actually a great way to express my frustrations with my job search as well. Good luck with this website, I think it is just what the Lehigh Valley needs.
